Apprentice RAC Roadside Automotive Technician
Starting July 2026
In partnership with the RAC we have an exciting unique Apprenticeship Programme for aspiring Roadside Patrols and Mobile Mechanics across the North of England!
As the UK's leading breakdown service provider, the RAC is a people powered business with 4,000 'Orange Heroes'. Our Apprenticeship Programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience needed to excel in the automotive industry, whether as one of our roadside breakdown patrols or as one of our mobile mechanics. As an Apprentices you will be required to attend the GTA based in Hull (HU4 7DY) for 4 days per week, every 5 weeks to complete your Level 2 Autocare Apprenticeship Training.
You will be mentored by an experienced roadside patrol person, working alongside them in their vehicle learning the skills and qualities required throughout your apprenticeship programme.

​We are looking to recruit 10 Apprentices to start 13 July 2026 within the following post code areas (you must live within a 30 minute drive of these postcodes):

Qualifications & Requirements

Age and License: Applicants must be over 18 years old (with no upper age limit) and hold a full clean UK driving license with less than 3 points.

Maths and English: GCSE or equivalent Maths and English minimum Grade 4 or above.

Willingness to Learn: We seek individuals with a strong desire to learn and grow in a dynamic environment, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities.

Hours of Work: Average 40 hours per week. You will work shifts - 7 days per week on a rota between 6.00 am to 12.00 midnight in the first year.

College: You will be required to attend the GTA based in Hull (HU4 7DY) for 4 days per week, every 5 weeks to complete your Level 2 Autocare Apprenticeship Training.
You will work towards a Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship, providing a solid foundation for your career in the automotive industry.

Please note - you will only be contacted if you live within a 30 minute journey to the RAC Mentor in your geographical area. Once you have applied we will email you details of the next stage if you meet all of the above requirements and live within the required geographical area. You will be required to attend the GTA in Hull (HU4 7DY) to carry out a selection assessment / interview.
We will try to respond to every application however due to the expected number of applications from across the country this may not always be possible. ​
Motor Vehicle Repair and Maintenance Apprenticeships and Full-Time Courses
Starting September 2026

​We accept applications from anyone wanting to move into the motor vehicle sector and have
apprenticeships and full time courses available from September 2026.
​
All applicants will be invited in to the GTA to undertake a selection assessment to determine the
best course for you, we usually start these sessions at Easter.
​
Entry Requirements
*No experience necessary
*Ideally GCSE grade 4 and above although training will be given to reach these standards.
