Skills Bootcamps

'Part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life'

We are proud to be working in partnership with Hull City Council and the Department for Education (DfE) through the Government’s Skills Bootcamp programme to offer a range of professional courses, qualifications and accreditations to enhance employed, self-employed and business owners advanced knowledge and skills within the motor industry.

It is common knowledge that the motor industry is undergoing rapid technological advancements, such as the rise of electric vehicles and autonomous driving.  To meet the demands of this ever changing industry, employees must possess up-to-date technical knowledge on the latest systems such as ADAS, Hybrid, full electric vehicles .   The GTA understands that we need to support continuous learning and upskilling by providing the most relevant training programmes and qualifications. 

 

Our Skills Bootcamp programme has been put together to offer skilled employees additional technical training and qualifications to enhance their knowledge and skills in this ever changing environment.  We have selected the most relevant and up to date programmes and are able to offer them with funding to support a substantial amount of the cost, to enable the sector to access these essential skills and additional knowledge to be at the forefront of the industry.

Candidates are able to select a minimum of 9 days training to be carried out within a 16 week period.  Funding can be used to from 100% of the overall retail price of the personalised Skills Bootcamp.  Eligibility will be checked on application. 

​

We have the following programmes on offer which individuals can pick and choose what would best suit this and their businesses current needs.

Vehicle Compliance Specialist 

  • Light Vehicle Inspection Accreditation 

3 days - to enable skilled technicians gain recognition for their vehicle inspection experience. 

​

  • MOT New Testers Qualification 

4 days - for those that would like to carry out MOT tests 

​

  • MOT Centre Manager 

2 days - who wish to run an MOT Vehicle Test Station (VTS), or who will have direct responsibility for MOT operations at the VTS in the future.

TechSafe Green Standard

  • Fundamentals of Electrics & Automotive Scope School 

2 days - advanced diagnostic level courses to increase knowledge and understanding of electrics and Oscilloscopes.  

​

  • Hybrid / Electric Vehicle Level 2 / 3 

3 days - learn to work safely on Hybrid/Electric vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. 

​

  • Hybrid / Electric Vehicle Level 4 

4 days - get to grips with the diagnosis, testing and repair of Hybrid/Electric Vehicles and Components.  This course includes candidates completing a written assignment.  Ask the GTA for more details.

Professional Diagnostic Development

A range of additional diagnosis one-day courses giving you the knowledge and skills to be able to undertake the industry recognised; IMI Level 3 Diagnostic Technician Accreditation. 

Choose from:

  • Fundamentals of Electrics

  • Modern Steering Systems

  • Automotive Scope School 

  • Diagnosis of Petrol Systems 

  • Modern Engine Management Systems

  • Common Rail Diesel

  • Catalytic Converts and DPF Systems

  • Advanced Braking

  • Smart Charging Systems / Stop Start

  • Airbags and Can-bus Made Easy

  • Plus Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) - Level 2 and 3 

 

  • When confident you can then undertake the IMI Level 3 Diagnostic Technician Accreditation
