BTEC LEVEL 2 - THE INTRODUCTION TO THE ROLE OF THE PROFESSIONAL TAXI & PRIVATE HIRE DRIVER

All learners must attend a Pre-BTEC Assessment before being booked onto the BTEC qualification.

During the session you will undertake assessments to determine if you meet the minimum requirements for the BTEC.  You will also have the opportunity to share your past qualifications.  

 

Sessions are likely to last up to 3 hours in duration.  

You will be notified by telephone if you are suitable for the BTEC or not, by telephone once the information has been assessed.

 

For the pre-BTEC Assessment you will need to bring with you:

  1. Photographic ID such as drivers licence, passport etc.

  2. Original certificates or authenticated copies for any Maths or English qualifications that you hold.

Covid-19 Update 

  • Local Knowledge Assessments are now available for booking, however bookings can only be taken over the phone and payments to be made by bank transfer before the date of assessment call 01482 353022 to make a booking.  

  • The Taxi BTEC course and the Literacy and Numeracy are currently not available, however we are taking expressions of interest at: www.motortradesgta.org/apply-now if you register your details we will contact you with start dates as soon as they are planned in.

This qualification gives you an introduction to the role of the professional taxi and private hire driver and on completion of the course enable you to apply for your taxi licence.

Entry Requirements
 

You must be currently working at a grade Level 1 or above in English language and Entry Level 3 or above in Maths in order to be eligible for the Level 2 BTEC course.

BTEC Course - BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver

Once you have been accepted onto the BTEC you will be able to book onto the next available course date.  The course is delivered over a two week period which can be spread over multiple weeks if necessary.  We have approximately 2 courses starting per month.  

​

You will be required to attend Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 8.30am - 4.30pm and Friday morning of both weeks that you attend.  You must attend all sessions.

Learning Outcomes
 

You will achieve a BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Introduction to the Role of the Professional Taxi and Private Hire Driver.
On achieving this qualification you will automatically be registered by EDEXCEL on to the  National Register of Taxi and Private Hire Drivers developed by People First, the UK skills council for hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism.

Assessment


Each unit will be assessed through an on-screen, multiple choice, question assessment on a Friday morning, you will have 9 units to complete in total. You will also be required to undertake one observation assessment.

Cost

​

The cost of the BTEC is £420 + VAT and is payable by cash or bank transfer before you commence your BTEC course.  You must bring with you your driving licence or photo ID which can be checked by our staff.

Taxi BTEC class

You will study the following units;

  • Unit 1 - Health & safety in the taxi & private hire work environment

  • Unit 2 - Road safety when driving passengers in a taxi or private hire vehicle

  • Unit 3 - Professional customer service in the taxi and private hire industry

  • Unit 4 - Taxi & private hire vehicle maintenance and safety inspections

  • Unit 5 - The regulatory framework of the taxi and private hire industry

  • Unit 6 - Taxi & private hire services for passengers who require assistance

  • Unit 7 - Routes & fares in the taxi and private hire vehicle industries

  • Unit 8 - Transporting of luggage and other items in the taxi and private hire industries

  • Unit 9 - Transporting of children and young persons by a taxi or private hire vehicle
